Our Educational Work
At the Libraries of the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology, we engage with educational matters in various ways.
Teaching in Courses at the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology
Students
At the HT Libraries, there is a subject librarian for each subject area. In addition to literature acquisition and liaising with the department, the subject librarian also conducts instruction for students in their subject areas in dialogue with course coordinators. The instruction provided by subject librarians should be driven by the students’ needs and be well integrated with the overall course structure. This instruction is documented in teaching plans.
Examples of topics that may be part of the subject librarian’s instruction include:
- Information searching
- Source criticism
- Reference management
- Academic integrity
- Copyright
- Scholarly communication and the information landscape
At the HT Libraries, there is also a language teaching expert who conducts workshops in academic writing and reading as part of the regular courses at all levels, both in Swedish and English. The language instructor’s workshops can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the subject and the students.
More information for the faculties’ teachers can be found under the Teachers section.
Doctoral Students
The research support team participates in several sessions of the mandatory introductory course for PhD students and provides an introduction to research visibility, LUCRIS, and data management. In addition to this, PhD students are offered both individual consultations and group sessions on topics such as data management planning and publishing during their doctoral studies.
Open Workshops
Students
In addition to the integrated teaching within the subjects, we also offer open workshops primarily aimed at students writing theses. Every Thursday, students can drop by the computer room at the SOL Library with their questions about academic writing, reading, and searching. Under the heading Come by with your text they can receive assistance from our language consultant and a librarian. At the end of each term, we usually offer digital sessions where students can get help uploading their theses to LUP Student Papers. The term’s workshop program can be found in the calendar and under the Student section.
Researchers
We also arrange seminars and workshops in the field of scholarly communication for doctoral students, researchers and other employees at the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology. The team working with research support at the HT Libraries also organises meetings/workshops for research groups and departments covering subjects such as Open Access, evaluation of publications, data management, as well as other aspects of scholarly communication. The term’s workshop program can be found in the calendar and under the Researchers section.
Digital Learning Objects and Subject Guides
Each subject librarian maintains a subject guide, a collection of useful links and resources for their respective subject. In addition to this, we have created a variety of digital resources and learning objects, ranging from subject-specific Canvas modules to videos on specific databases and general modules on topics like academic integrity, which are available in Canvas Commons.
Individual Support
At both the information desk and during Book a Librarian sessions, we answer reference questions and help our users find literature for their academic texts. Generally, this involves helping users to help themselves. Naturally, one cannot expect more advanced assistance at the information desk, especially since it is not always staffed by librarians, but basic reference questions can be answered. Book a Librarian sessions can cover more specific, complex, or in-depth questions that could not be resolved during a teaching session with the subject librarian or have arisen after the session. Both students and researchers can book time with their subject librarian.
